Changing retention of existing material in archives??

Hi Guys

Very quick question....way back when the powers that be decided a certain department should have a 2 year retention for both file and mail. So everything in their archives has a 2 year retention!!

Now in their infinite wisdom they want this changed to 7 years...which is fair enough and im happy to proceed!

BUT.....im of the understanding that the 2 year retention will remain for all items currently archived, and the 7 year retention will only apply to items once i make the policy change and put it into production.

Is there a way to apply the 7 year policy to all involved "including" existing items in the archives?

Outlook Versions on the Enterprise Vault Server - Again

For a long time Outlook has been used on Enterprise Vault servers to perform various activities relating to archiving. More specifically the underlying MAPI libraries are used. For many years the highest version of Outlook which was supported on the server was Outlook 2007, but recently that all changed.

I remember when I worked in Enterprise Vault Engineering a few years ago and Outlook 2010 was announced, and finally released. During the beta phase Outlook 2010 was tried on the Enterprise Vault servers, but for many reasons (including performance, or lack of it) the support of running it on the server was never forthcoming. 

So the compatibility charts showed this, for a long time:

As I said above this has all changed recently, with the release of Enterprise Vault 11.0.1.  With this release Outlook 2013 SP 1 is now supported on the Enterprise Vault Server, with a few caveats:

- Has to be Outlook 2013 SP 1 32 bit

- Has to be Enterprise Vault 11.0.1

- Can not be used to target Exchange 2003 (yes some people still have this).

So now the charts look like this:

couldn’t manually archive items

I need a solution

we are facing an issue with a single mailbox which we can't manually archive items.

EV v9.0.4

Client : outlook 2010  with client 10.0.3 installed

Every time a manual archive action is started :

We receive the attached errors

We have tried to zap the mailbox and created a new archive but still the same issue , we have also tried to create a new outlook profile, however it doesn’t fix the issue.

Client log shows the below :

Move Vault Stores and Index to a new cluster in the same site

I need a solution

Hi,

at this time we have the following EV environment

Enterprise Vault 11.0.1
1x VM EV Journaling - Win2008R2
1x VM EV Mailbox, EV FSA - Win2008R2

Now i have installed a new windows cluster(Win2008R2) additionally and joined the cluster to the existing site.

I will migrate all vault stores and indexes which belongs to mailbox archiving to the new windows
cluster.

At this time we haven´t configured Index Server Groups. 
How can I migrate the index and the vault stores and change the indexer to the new cluster?

I think that this instructions are ok, but how can I change the indexer from the migrated vault stores without using 
Index Server Groups?

I need a solution

Hi everyone,

We have a problem about Enterprise Vault. Our enviroment Exchange 2010 2 CAS 3 MBX. 

I login OWA and then click an archived item. I get a warning top of the mail, "The archived item is currently unavailable. If you choose repy or forward, only the content shown below will be included.".

Can anyone help me ?

How to run manually archiving task twice a day for only selected mailboxes

Hello,

Is there a way to make manual archiving task or script in order to run twice per day against i.e two mailboxes only that are on same exchange server.

The goal here is to automatically archive two common mailboxes that are getting over quota every day.

We are using Symantec Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 CHF-3 with Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012.

I reset the cache and used Archive Explorer and the "To" field is still empty on most of the emails ?  any idea what is causing this ?

I need a solution

After trying to process a Hold collection the process finished but get this error:

[#80000] common services error : unable to open csv file - \\server-FQDN\d$\cw\v81\scratch\temp\esadb\datastore_case_xxxx\attindexdir\scancomplete\sc_numberxxxx_0.csv

I saw the TECH229202 article and thought it would be the same but after looking closely the directory does not contain the directory after \\server-FQDN\d$\cw\v81\scratch\temp\esadb\datastore_case_xxxx\, there is no attindexdir\scancomplete\ directories.

Any ideas?

Issue with IMAP authentication

Hi All

EV 11 SP1

We are busy installing the Mail Connect (IMAP) component of EV at an established EV customer 

At the  moment we are not using certificates as we are just testing within the network. Anyway we have done the following as per the installation guide 

 - Created the IMAP and SMTP endpoints 

- assigned the IMAP  endpoint to the mailbox archive server 

- Created the MDS Index on two users

- Created the relevant policies and enabled two users for IMAP access 

We are testing the connectivity from two Android Samsung phones and when we try to do the initial testing of IMAP and the SMTP it passes SMTP but keeps on not accpeting the IMAP credentilals which tells me something is wromh with the aurthentication 

We get the the same result iif we try from a desktop. We are using the naming format Domain\User Name\IMAP Archive ID

We didn't initially do this but this is mentioned in the Deploying IMAP guide, we have made the prmary EV mailbox arhciving server the IMAP Box

My questions is what can cause the IMAP authentication to fail? We can Telnet on port 143 and the two users are enbabled. How would you Dtrace this type of issue?

EV File System Archiving - Restore Search Results

I need a solution

I have an EV10 system running both Email & FSA and have a requirement to save all the documents returned from a search to a specific location.  I can do this with email, by simply restoring to a PST from the search application, but cannot see how to do this for files ?

I have the archive selected in the Search web app, and the search criteria is returning the required results (all files, no email in this archive).  I can select the results and select to restore them but this provides me with the option to restore to a PST.  I want to restore these files returned from the search to a specific location on a file server.

I am aware of the restrictions of 5000 items at a time etc., but can work around this.

How can I achieve this ?

Moving Collection-Set source data

I need a solution

We are in the process of trying to move our file-shares and re-organize how our Clearwell data sources are structured.  In doing so, we need to move the collection sets that were already processed into different cases.  The source locator modifier will not allow that move to tell Clearwell to look at a new location.  Is there any other way?

Old structure: \\fileshare\clearwell\collections\

New structjre: \\fileshare2\deparement\clearwell\collections\

Upgrade EV9 to EV10

I need a solution

I migrated EV9 from 32bit over to 64bit OS successfully.  Now, trying to upgrade from 9.0.1 to 10.0.4, and then EV11.  Getting EV installation error "This Hotfix is not compatable with Enterprise Vault 9.0.1.1073".

This article says EV9.x to EV10.x is supported.  Am I missing something?

Can you set size on Vault store partition?

I need a solution

Hi,

I have large volumes 8TB+ and was looking at setting Vault store partion to Tape size of 2.35TB, however there appers to be no option to set the rollover for Vault partion size just the Disk volume size.

I would prefer this to be auto rather then me doing it manualy since we have over 80TB to archive

So the idea is that for each Disk Volume I have 3 Partions (Ptn1,Ptn2 and Ptn3) of 2.35TB each leaving 16% for operations disk volume, and get them to roll over to the next automaticaly once prtitions are filled up.

I need a solution

I have the same issue as described here:

I did what is suggested (delete user row from OWS_UserPreferences table) - this solved the issue, for exactly 2 days.

I had to delete it again today - any ideas how to search for the root cause of this issue?

Search.asp between a date range - results outside of date criteria

Hi all, I've been running a search against a user archive specifying a date range - 01/01/2011 - 01/11/2011

If I select the first mail in the list of returned results it is from a date that is outside the specified date range - 2012

In fact there are a lot of mails that are outside the date range

Can anyone suggest why that might be?

Hi Folks

Just looking for a quick answer on PST Migration of contacts and calendar. Im doing server driven pst migrations where each user has a mailbox folder called "enterprise vault"

In my pst migration policy ive selected all the message classes and under shortcut creation ive selected "this folder under the root folder" and filled with "enterprise vault"

for info's sake i'm also restricting shortcut creation to items older than 2 years.

All works fine, the mails within the 2 year limit are sent to the mailbox as they should be!

But the contacts and calendar are empty, if i browse the archive al the contacts have been migrated into the archive, but they have not been moved to the mailbox as per the age limit.

Is this because contacts dont receive shortcuts and as such will never get put to the mailbox?

EV 11 Plugin on Outlook 2011 for Mac crashes

I need a solution

I have an issue which I cannot seem to fix.

I am using Yosemite with EV 11.0.1.1022 plugin installed. Whenever I login to the vault the EV app appears to crash. The icon in the top task bar disapears and the about 60 seconds later returns and is still not logged in. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin but to no avail. The hotfix 1 for EV 11 seems to be for windows operating systems only with nothing for OSX.  Has anyone else suffered this?
